Hi Everyone,
I create a Prezi presentation about the person who I evaluated for mistakes in English. I had a great time learning from Anna, who is originally from Poland. Please enjoy yourselves! The link to my presentation is below.

Hi Joseph! I loved your prezi! It was so interesting to read about the polish language. I often wondered why people from certain countries pronounced English words the way they do. Looking at your data information it was easy to understand why Anna made the errors she did. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteJoseph,
ReplyDeleteI loved your Prezi presentation! The information was nicely put together and interesting. I have never read about the Polish language. I learned that the language has 32 letters, that Q, V, and X do not exist and much more. It was beneficial to be able to recap Anna's experience learning English. Nicely done!
Hi Joseph,
ReplyDeleteWonderful presentation;)I like that you chose a subject from a European country. It was interesting/funny to see Anna's pronunuciation of the word donuts as "dog-nuts". I never knew that articles don't exist in the Polish language.
Question: Does Anna work and if so, what does she do?
Joseph, great Prezi!
ReplyDeleteEven though Anna has been in the U.S. for many years now and has attended college, we can see that she still makes mistakes. Her errors are proof that English is not acquired in a short amount of time. I think you did a thorough job of analyzing her English and the information in your Prezi was easy to follow!
Joe, Nice Prezi! It was fun to follow with all of the turns and effects. I also liked the fact that you gave insight to Polish, a less commonly learned language here in the US. You seem to have a great understanding of Anna’s language learning process as a whole which will take you far in the ESL classroom. Good work!

Joseph,
ReplyDeleteA very well organized Prezi. I like how you tested her in areas where you thought she would have difficulty only to discover that she had difficulties elsewhere. I did not know that there were such significant differences between Polish and English in terms of pronunciation. I know that for many language learners the -th is a difficult blend to pronounce, did she offer any insight into how she tries to overcome this difficulty?
I also found it interesting that she spelled her words first in Polish to make the phonetics easier. This makes me wonder, are Polish words spelled similarly to English words? If not, I'm shocked that this method would be helpful for her. I know when I was learning Spanish, I found the less that I switched back and forth between the languages the better because it only caused me more confusion. If she does feel comfortable using Polish as a basis for spelling, I wonder if this is some sort of strategy that we could all implement in our classrooms.
I loved how you used a student who is older (past school age) and has had more time to acquire the language. Still you found areas of difficulty in her English proficiency. I learned from your presentation that the Polish language does not use articles, that and the blend “th” is not used. “Th” has got to be the most popular blend in the English language. I enjoyed reading your Prezi so much, I plan to return and read it again. Thank you for all the information.
